About the contest

Origins

JKM

Spurred on by its Mayor, His Excellency Mr. Jacques Kosciusko-Morizet, Ambassador of France, the town of Saint-Nom la Breteche gave its name in 1984, to a National Piano Competition. Thus the National Piano Competition of St. Nom la Breteche was born.

Retrospective

This contest has quickly exceeded local boundaries, to attract all the Yvelines department and several large cities in France. From 327 candidates in 1987, the number of candidates rose to 539 in 1993.

The high level of competition quickly attracted candidates from all European countries and even Japan ..

To meet this demand an International Piano Competition was created in 1990. It was immediately very successful, since it attracted, from the first year, 78 candidates from 17 countries.

Since 2003, the contest has been hosted by the town of Chatou (city in the land of the Impressionists) under the Honorary Chairmanship of Mr Christian MUREZ, Mayor of the City, Knight of the Order of Merit, then Mr Ghislain FOURNIER , Mayor and Vice-President of the Conseil Général and Michèle Grellier, Deputy Mayor for Culture, Heritage and Communication.

In March 2004 have already held the first rounds of the competition under the new name : "Cecile EDEL-LATOS" Piano Competition of Chatou for national tests.

Since 2004, national competitions have been held every year. The last international Piano competition of Chatou was held in 2006.
